Elegance meets vocal mastery

Dr. Jhumki Rath, from her early childhood, is a keen student of Hindustani classical music. Music runs in her family. Her mother learnt Hindustani vocal and her father was a devout patron of classical music. Against this backdrop, she started her journey as a student of classical music. Though, she was good at academics too, her father dreamt of her as a singer. She stuck to her love for the pure classical form, against all odds and established herself as a major Hindustani Classical Vocalist of Odisha. She took her initial training in Hindustani Classical Music from Shri Baladev Singhji and was initiated into the fascinating world of ghazals, geets and bhajans from an early age. Later, she was under the tutelage of eminent guru Shri Gopal Chandra Panda. She also widely heard female protagonists of Hindustani Classical Vocal like Dr. Prabha Atre, Begum Parveen Sultana, to name a few, and tried to incorporate some of their styles in her rendition. She performed Hindustani classical in various programmes sponsored by Bhubaneswar Music Circle, ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) etc.
